How To Incorporate TANU Into Your Skincare Routine

Cell Affinity Coactive Serum | TANU - I describe as gentle yet potent, yin, and yang. The ingredients are from ethical farming practices this may encompass both certified organic or wildcrafted as long as it is done in a sustainable way. I am not interested in new 'on-trend' ingredients, or offering false hope! I am interested in efficacy, history of the plant, in the freshest batches I can possibly source, which have not been deodorized and filtered. I take time in searching for and trailing the raw, most nutrient-rich plant-sourced ingredients I can lay my hands on. These ingredients are 'alive' and offer a full smorgasbord of bio-available plant compounds your skin recognizes and drinks in!

If you want an 'on-trend', low-cost, Brand offering new product releases every few months backed by heavily marketed product campaigns then FIFTY7KIND is not for you.

The aroma of TANU is due to the unique combination of raw plant constituents, not from the addition of essential oils. Sure there are two essential oils present in the formulation: Chamomile and Blue Tansy, this is because of the formulation and skin health benefits they each offer, not for the aroma. The aroma interestingly is a different experience for each human who has made the choice to try TANU. For me it is an instant grounding connection to the earth, calming and feels like a comforting all-encompassing hug from my mom - one of my earliest memories is being in the garden gathering herbs with her, that is the aroma for me. Customers have shared with me their personal associations with the aroma of TANU and for each of us, it has connected us to a memory and moment in time, that you can actually 'feel'. This is both powerful and beautiful, you find yourself looking forward to the 'ritual of your self-care routine' which skincare is or can be if you just make the time.

If this approach 'speaks' to you - welcome home my friend!

Science of aroma /

The aroma components from natural products have been used for mental, spiritual and physical healing since the beginning of recorded history. In aromatherapy, fragrance substances (aroma/odor/scent) from various natural sources have been used for the treatment of various disorders. Aromatherapy treatment is a natural way of healing a person’s mind, body, and soul.

Fragrance (aroma) is a volatile chemical component with a molecular weight of <300 Da (dalton) that humans perceive via the olfactory system. In the olfactory process, the fragrant molecules in the air attach to the cilia of olfactory receptors in the nasal cavity. Next, the guanine nucleotide-binding protein (G-protein) coupled receptors (GPCR) are activated and electrical signals are generated. These electrical signals are transmitted to the brain by olfactory sensory neurons via olfactory bulb and higher olfactory cortex.

These electrical signals modulate the brain functions including memory, thoughts, and emotions. Many studies describe that the inhalation of fragrances highly affects the brain function since the fragrance compounds are able to cross the blood-brain barrier and interact with receptors in the central nervous system. Many studies have suggested that the olfactory stimulation of fragrances produces immediate changes in physiological parameters such as blood pressure, muscle tension, pupil dilation, skin temperature, pulse rate, and brain activity

To deodorize removes the aroma and filtering removes many compounds that bring color. This is removing the 'life-force' of the plant, destroying skin beneficial synergies, say goodbye to the 'healing fraction' of plant lipids, this is where you find the vitamins, minerals, polyphenols, antioxidants, and waxes. With the aroma and color removed a lifeless formulation now requires the addition of perfume or essential oils to make it 'smell nice', not for the potential skin-health benefits from essential oils. Where have these essential oils been sourced? or what is the perfume created from? are they pure, have they been adulterated are they sustainably sourced...?

Cell Affinity Coactive Serum | TANU offers multi-tasking skincare and therefore negates the need for a plethora of products. I have a minimalist approach to my skincare routine as I personally feel it is very easy to overwhelm our skins, this can show up immediately, if like me, you are the 'reactive' sort, or overtime your skin eventually shouts STOP! breakouts and then skin issues arise which are time-consuming to calm down and then, try to resolve. This is why I say less is more.

Potent? why do I say potent yet gentle? TANU is gentle when used in small amounts, it is a concentrated skin treatment, composed of supercritical whole-plant extracts at high percentages, Crithmum Maritmum which provides the retinoid-like effects is incorporated at a significant percentage. The proprietary herbal infusion again is so incredibly rich in phytonutrients, it is the second ingredient on the INCI list after Certified Organic Prickly Pear Seed, offering your skin:- Vitamins, Antioxidants, Essential Fatty Acids and a source of bioactive compounds and large doses of them, it soothes, moisturizes, and reduces inflammation that damages collagen. You can read more about Prickly Pear on my blog "The Holy Grail Seed Oil - Prickly Pear"

My 7 Multi-tasking - Must Haves:

  1. DELIVERY SYSTEM / Nanoencapsulation technology delivers targeted antioxidants aiding in the prevention of skin damage from pollution and free-radicals.
  2. EFFICACY / Crithmum Maritmumoffers a retinoid-like action, enhancing cell turnover, aiding the reduction of sebum secretion, diminishing the appearance of wrinkles and UV photodamage; without skin irritation or photosensitivity.
  3. BARRIER AGENTS / Phytoceramides, Essential Fatty Acids, Fatty Esters synergistically replenish the skin's lipids and ceramides to aid in the reduction of water loss, helping maintain a strong barrier function.
  4. MOISTURIZING AGENTS / Phospholipids inhibit trans‐epidermal water loss to increase skin moisturization while Fatty Acid Esters support the skin's water-holding capabilities to help preserve elasticity.
  5. PLANT VITAMINS / Aid in the prevention of the loss of the skin's firmness, and elasticity.
  6. NATURAL SALICYLIC ACID / Accelerates the turnover of skin cells for gentle exfoliation, clears pores, and stimulates new cell formation.
  7. PHOTO-PROTECTORS / Offer skin a small amount of UV absorption along with antioxidant properties, these combined together offer the protection to prevent the early signs of aging. Photoprotective effects reduce the number of sunburn cells, protect the epidermis cells to reduce DNA damage.

My Routine

Your routine is your choice, for your life circumstances and it is safe to assume you probably know your own skin the best! below I share my routine:

MORNING /

Cleanse / Apply cleansing balm massage face/neck and remove with warm water and a damp face cloth - I choose hemp because it is one of the most sustainable plants (crops) and is fully biodegradable.

Hydrate / Apply a (water-based) serum to offer hydration to my skin and let it settle into my skin.

Treat / Apply Cell Affinity Coactive Serum | TANU. I use the glass rollerball and roll once across my forehead, each cheek and my jaw. I then use my fingers to gently massage into my skin, from my jaw area I take any excess down my neck and decolletage if there is no excess I apply one roll on that area too massaging in.

Protect / Apply SPF.

EVENING /

Cleanse / Apply cleansing balm massage face/neck and remove with warm water and damp face cloth. If I am taking a shower I will leave the balm on my skin until I have finished, this is to protect my skin from the hard water I have at home, that strips my skin dry - literally. Then I remove the balm as per morning routine.

Hydration Prep / Mist with a hydrosol depending on what I am currently formulating (I may be trailing a new hydrosol) and use just that, otherwise I have a combination hydrosol with additional ingredients (skin benefits).

Hydrate / Apply a (water-based) serum to offer hydration to my skin I let it settle into my skin before the next step.

Treat / Apply TANU - exactly the same as the morning, taking more time to inhale the aroma and just breathe! I say 'thank you' why? because finding something to be grateful for is a must for (my) mental health. We are bombarded with all the bad-news 24/7, I make an effort to find the good news and focus on that - I digress!

Protect / No not with SPF but with a night mask, (if I feel I need this step) I often do this step just because I am always formulating and testing creations! This is to help seal in all the goodness already applied to my skin and to have extra overnight treatment.

Mask / Once a week I mask - I mix up some plant-based powders with honey and or coconut water or apply a mask if I have one pre-made.

It is a simple routine but its all my skin needs. As for exfoliation, my skin is not too keen on mechanical (physical) exfoliation, the plant-sourced Salicylic Acid (incorporated into TANU) offers daily gentle exfoliation, also the hemp face washer (cloth) I used has a soft fleecy side and a more coarse side, this side of the face washer offers a level of exfoliation for my skin - Occasionally I will use a glycolic acid.

TANU is best incorporated after your water-based products but is perfectly happy as a stand-alone application on either damp or dry skin, TANU is very polite and plays well with others (products).

DETAILS

Hands / Are awesome just think of all the things they enable you to do? Just like your face they are exposed to environmental stressors and require protection and care. I add TANU to my hands daily, my hands are both awesome and happy.

Eyes /  According to Psychology experts your peepers are the windows to your soul - TANU is safe to go around this delicate, eye area.

Roller-Ball Application Explained / Gently roll directly onto your face, roll once across the forehead, each cheek, and once down the neck and decolletage areas. Use fingertips to tap or massage serum into the skin. Alternatively, you can roll the serum onto your fingertips and apply, or roll directly onto your palm if you wish to mix with other products.

Glass rollerball vs. a pipette - The rollerball is a great antidote for those of us who have spilled, forgotten to tighten the lid of, or experienced leaking pipettes. Is it unhygienic? TANU is an oil-based serum - oils do not harbor bacteria in the same way water-based products do - rest assured bacteria cannot and will not collect on the rollerball. The formulation contains antibacterial compounds and it offers a more economical use of the serum - it will last longer! Not for you? - buy the 5ml pipette bottle!

Skins / Made for all skins - Firstly please always do a 24-hour patch test before applying to your face! inside of the wrist is recommended. Hormonal or acne-prone skin? Crithmum Maritimum helps to clear pores and prevent microcomedones associated with acne. It also helps regulate sebum secretion. TANU boasts strong anti-inflammatory compounds to calm irritation and inflammation.

I do hope you will consider adding TANU into your self-love skincare routine, if you have any questions you can, as always reach me via email love@fifty7kind.com
